The University of Regina's men's hockey team skated to a 3-3 overtime tie with the Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday night in non-conference action at the CIS Classic in Waywayseecappo, Man.
The Cougars got goals from
Ryan Bender and
Shayne Emmons to take a 2-0 lead after one. Saskatchewan's Steve DaSilva cut the deficit in half with a goal midway through the second stanza.
Ryan Cruse restored Regina's two-goal lead three minutes into the third, but Huskie goals by DaSilva and Colin Patterson tied the game at three.
A five-minute overtime session settled nothing.
Adam Ward went the distance in net for Regina, turning aside 21 of Saskatchewan's 24 shots. Russell Monette and Jeff Harvey split the goaltending duties for the Huskies.
The Cougars will face Manitoba and Saskatchewan next weekend in a pair of non-conference games in Saskatoon.
