The University of Regina's men's hockey team opened up its 2012-13 non-conference schedule over the weekend at The Co-operators Centre with a win over Briercrest College on Friday and losses to Manitoba on Saturday and Saskatchewan on Sunday.
Friday, Sept. 14 – Briercrest College 0, Regina 13 [

The Cougars got the offence going early and kept it rolling throughout the contest, as they scored four times in the first, four in the second, and five in the third in a big win over Briercrest College.
Regina spread the offence around nicely, as
Liam Brennan and
Ward Szucki both notched a pair of goals and nine other Cougars lit the lamp. Brennan and Szucki both added two assists for four-point nights, while
Troy Hunter scored once and added three assists to also end up with four points.
Andrew Hayes and
Lucas Gore split the netminding duties in the win.
Saturday, Sept. 15 – Manitoba 5, Regina 0 [

Jesse Paradis scored twice in a four-goal outburst by Manitoba in the second period, propelling the visiting Bisons to a 5-0 win over the Cougars on Saturday afternoon.
Tyler Feakes got Manitoba on the board late in the first period, scoring the first goal of the contest with just 21 seconds remaining in the opening 20 minutes. Besides Paradis' two goals, Ian Duval and Brock Sutherland also scored for the Bisons in the second.
Joe Caligiuri and Deven Dubyk split the shutout for Manitoba, while
Andrew Hayes and
Mitch Kilgore each played half the game between the pipes for Regina.
Sunday, Sept. 16 – Saskatchewan 5, Regina 1 [

A goal by second-year forward
Tyler Henry sent the teams into the second intermission separated by just one, but Saskatchewan pulled away from the Cougars with three goals in the third and ended up with a 5-1 win on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first period of play, Shayne Neigum and Kenton Dulle both scored for the Huskies in the opening six minutes of the second, but Henry answered back with his second of the non-conference schedule to cut the Saskatchewan lead to 2-1.
Dulle, Jesse Ross, and Matthew Spafford all scored for Saskatchewan in the third, while Ryan Holfeld stopped 21 of 22 shots in the win for the Huskies.
The Cougars split the goaltending duties once again on Sunday, with
Lucas Gore starting and
Mitch Kilgore coming in midway through the second.
The U of R continues its non-conference schedule next weekend with a pair of road games against Manitoba in Winnipeg.
