The University of Regina's women's rugby sevens team finished with a 1-4 record over the weekend in Edmonton at the first Canada West tournament of the seasonĀ
The Cougars opened up the weekend with three losses on Friday, falling by scores of 45-5 to Victoria, 52-5 to Calgary, and 55-7 to Lethbridge.
Saturday morning saw the Cougars match up against Trinity Western in a consolation semifinal, which the Spartans took by a 27-0 margin to send Regina to the seventh-place game.
The Cougars then clinched seventh place in the eight-team tournament with an exciting 12-10 win over Brandon.
Gracie Anderson scored a try in the first half with the convert by
Robyn Kirwan, then
Myah Duperreault's try in the second half stood as the game-winning score for Regina.
Anderson finished as the team's leading scorer with three tries in Regina's five games played. Duperreault had two tries, while Kirwan and
Noor Aldhaher both had converts.
The Cougars will also participate in the third Canada West tournament of the 2022-23 season coming up on Mar. 3 and Mar. 4 at the University of British Columbia.
