The University of Regina's women's basketball team won all three of its games at the Las Vegas Shootout this week, defeating Montana Tech, Carroll College, and Montana Western at the non-conference tournament.
Michelle Clark hit a game-winning three-pointer for the Cougars on Thursday as the U of R started out the tournament with a 50-47 victory over Montana Tech. The Cougars led 32-21 at the half only to see the Orediggers completely erase that lead with a second-half rally, but Clark's three at the buzzer - her second triple of the game - sealed the win.
Clark ended up with a team-leading 14 points, while
Jennilea Coppola came off the bench to lead the Cougars with eight rebounds in just 13 minutes on the floor.
The Cougars won their second game in as many days on Friday after topping Carroll College by a 60-48 margin. Clark led the Cougars with 14 points for the second game in a row, while
Danielle Schmidt and Read both collected 10 points.
The U of R finished the perfect weekend on Saturday with a 65-47 win over Montana Western.
Brittany Read didn't start, but was 8-for-11 from the field and led all players with 16 points while adding eight rebounds.
Nicisha Johnson also had a strong game off the bench for the Cougars. collecting a team-high nine rebounds.
Katie Polischuk also broke into double figures in scoring for the Cougars, hitting a pair of treys and ending up with 10 points.
The Cougars now have a 21-4 overall record and have won all 14 of their games away from the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport in Regina, as they're 7-0 in away games and 7-0 in neutral-site affairs. The U of R returns to the Canada West schedule on Jan. 11 at home against UNBC in what will be the first-ever conference meeting between the two schools. The Cougars also host Mount Royal at the CKHS on Jan. 12.
