Cougars load up with 21 PBs at Winter Classic in Regina

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina swimming teams combined for 21 personal-best performances at the long-course Winter Classic, hosted over the weekend at the Lawson Aquatic Centre in Regina.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ethan Elliott captured gold in the 50-metre freestyle with an impressive time of 24.53 seconds, a significant improvement from his previous best of 25.27, set at last May's Mel Zajac Jr. International in Vancouver. Elliott also recorded a personal best in the 50-metre butterfly.
  • Oleksii Kolesov (pictured) posted four personal-best swims, highlighted by a victory in the 400-metre freestyle with a time of 4:19.16.
  • Isaac Currie also recorded three personal bests, including a strong swim of 54.85 seconds in the 100-metre freestyle to cut more than a second off his previous best from last summer's Canadian Trials in Victoria.
  • Reese Nelson and Adalbert Zhang each notched two personal bests, while Dylan DeRose led the team with five.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Kelsey Jones accounted for two of the women's team's three personal bests, posting times of 33.17 seconds in the 50-metre backstroke and 36.71 seconds in the 50-metre breaststroke.
  • Aubry Haldorson recorded the other women's PB with a time of 31.77 seconds in the 50-metre butterfly.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars return to action at the Edmonton Open from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1 in Alberta's capital. The meet will serve as the final major tune-up before the U SPORTS Championships, scheduled for Mar. 12 to Mar. 14 in Markham, Ont.
