QUICKLY
Shelaine Pritchard and Jonathan Podbielski both won a pair of events over the weekend as the University of Regina's track & field teams combined for eight top-three finishes at the Sanderson Classic held in Saskatoon.

PRITCHARD WINS HURDLES, LONG JUMP
  • Pritchard got things started on Friday afternoon in the long jump, throwing down a jump of 5.91m on her first attempt which stood as her best of six and the top effort of the 24 entrants in the event.
  • She then won the 60-metre hurdles on Friday night, registering the fastest time in the prelims before winning the finals in a personal-best time of 8.52 seconds.
  • Pritchard also kept busy on Saturday, collecting another personal best while placing third in the shot put (12.56m) and also finishing in eighth place in the high jump (1.59m).
  • The early U SPORTS rankings heavily feature Pritchard thanks to her strong showing at the Sanderson. She jumps to No. 4 in U SPORTS in both long jump and 60-metre hurdles, and No. 6 in the nation in the shot put.

PAIR FOR PODBIELSKI
  • Podbielski kicked off his third U SPORTS track & field season with a win on Friday night in the 1000-metre run. He finished with a time of 2:25.22 to win by almost exactly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
  • Saturday saw Podbielski finish with a time of 3:54.11 in the 1500-metre run, winning by over four seconds for his second victory of the weekend.
  • The reigning Canada West champion and University of Regina record holder in both events, Podbielski is second in the early U SPORTS rankings in the 1000 and fifth in the nation in the 1500.

OTHER PERFORMANCES
  • The Cougars also had second-place finishes from Kaidyn Keith, Ian Teichler, and in the relays along with a third-place effort courtesy of Storm Zablocki.
  • Keith was second in the triple jump, reeling off a personal-best jump of 11.82 metres. Keith, now in her third year with the Cougars, was just 23 centimetres shy of automatically qualifying for her first U SPORTS Championships.
  • Competing in his first track meet at the U SPORTS level, Teichler placed second in the 1500 behind Podbielski with a personal-best time of 3:58.31.
  • Pritchard, Keith, Heidi Branning, and Katelyn Kichula combined to finish third in the women's 4x200-metre relay. The team finished with a time of 1:42.75, not far off of the U SPORTS standard of 1:41.45 in the event.
  • Zablocki finished third in the 60-metre dash (6.87).

PB PARADE
  • The Cougars finished with a total of 34 personal bests at the Sanderson Classic.
  • Besides Teichler's PB in the 1500, the men's team combined for 25 personal bests. Other notable PBs on the men's side included in the 60-metre dash where Femi Akinloye finished in 6.94 seconds and Mason Novik went under 7 for the first time (6.99). Adam Sieben had the fastest of eight Cougar PBs in the 300-metre dash, finishing eighth with a time of 36.11 seconds.
  • Of the nine PBs that the women's team registered, Keith and Pritchard combined for four of them. Keith not only had a big PB in the triple jump, but also had a PB in the 300-metre dash as she finished in 40.46 seconds to finish sixth in that event.
