QUICKLY
  • Queen Clayton and the women's 4x200-metre relay team both set school records and Shelaine Pritchard hit the U SPORTS standard in the 60-metre hurdles as the University of Regina's track & field teams split the squad and competed at both the Pandas Open in Edmonton and the Regina Indoor Games over the weekend.

CLAYTON, WOMEN'S 4X2 REWRITE RECORD BOOK
  • Clayton finished second in the 300-metre dash with a time of 38.87 seconds in the Pandas Open final, breaking the U of R's old record which Merissa Margetts had held since 2011 at 39.14 seconds. The second-year sprinter is now ranked No. 3 in Canada West and No. 7 in the nation in the 300.
  • Clayton also teamed up with Pritchard, Kaidyn Keith, and Heidi Branning to win the women's 4x200-metre relay in a time of 1:38.37. That time broke the U of R record of 1:39.77 that the same four registered earlier this year at the Sanderson Classic and also has the Cougars ranked No. 3 in U SPORTS this season.

PRITCHARD HITS HURDLES STANDARD
  • Pritchard hit the U SPORTS standard in the 60-metre hurdles preliminaries with a season-fastest time of 8.38 seconds before going on to place third in the final of the Pandas Open.
  • She's tied for fifth nationally and ranked No. 4 in Canada West in the hurdles, and has now hit the U SPORTS standard in four different events this season. Pritchard has also hit the national standard in the shot put, long jump, and pentathlon.

MEN'S 4X2 RANKED NO. 1
  • The men's 4x200-metre relay team consisted of Adam Sieben, Femi Akinloye, Colby Halliday, and Brett Franklin. The squad finished in first place at the Pandas Open, throwing down a time of 1:27.86 that has the Cougars ranked No. 1 in U SPORTS this season.
  • The team's time is the second fastest registered by a U SPORTS school this season, trailing only McGill's time of 1:27.63 that the Redbirds recorded on a banked track two weekends ago.

PANDAS OPEN HIGHLIGHTS
  • Clayton also had personal-best performances in both the 60-metre hurdles (8.44 s) and the 60-metre dash (7.51 s) and is now ranked No. 6 and No. 7 in Canada West, respectively, in those events.
  • Keith won the triple jump with a season-best performance of 11.43 metres which has her ranked No. 7 in the conference.
