QUICKLY
Shelaine Pritchard's U SPORTS standard in the long jump was the highlight for the University of Regina's track & field teams at the Bison Classic over the weekend in Winnipeg.

PRITCHARD QUALIFIES FOR U SPORTS MEET
  • Already qualified for nationals in the pentathlon, Pritchard added a second standard of the season when she registered a jump of 6.03 metres on her third attempt in the long jump.
  • Pritchard won all three events she entered. Besides her win in the long jump, she also placed first in the 60-metre dash and first in the 60-metre hurdles - and both with personal-best performances, as she registered times of 7.56 seconds and 8.49 seconds, respectively.
  • Pritchard is now ranked second in the nation in the long jump and fifth in both the 60-metre dash and 60-metre hurdles.

PODBIELSKI WINS 1500, 3000
  • Jonathan Podbielski collected another pair of wins at the Bison Classic, with his first coming on Friday night when he won the 3000-metre run by nearly 10 seconds with a finishing time of 8:19.76.
  • He followed that up on Saturday afternoon with a victory in the 1500-metre run, running a season-fastest time of 3:46.02 that has him ranked No. 8 in the U SPORTS rankings and second in Canada West.

COUGARS EARN TEN TOP-TWO FINISHES
  • The U of R finished with seven top-two finishes on the women's side. In addition to Pritchard's three event wins, the Cougars also had first-place efforts on the women's side from Kaidyn Keith in the triple jump (11.76m) and the 4x200-metre relay team (1:40.62) which consisted of Pritchard, Heidi Branning, Queen Clayton, and Keith. Branning was second in the 60-metre dash (7.71 s) while Faith Adebogun was second in the shot put (11.17m).
  • The men's team also had two second-place finishes. Adam Sieben was second in the 60-metre dash (6.85 s) while Ian Teichler placed second behind Podbielski in the 3000 (8:29.66).

TEAM COMBINES FOR 28 PERSONAL BESTS
  • The Cougars combined for a total of 28 personal bests at the meet. 21 of those were on the men's side, including Daniel Eiswerth and Femi Akinloye with times of 35.47 and 35.62 seconds, respectively, in the 300-metre dash. Scott Fenton had two PBs including a time of 1:23.40 in the 600-metre run, while Brett MacLean had a time of 3:56.56 in the 1500.
  • Besides Pritchard's two PBs, the women's team also saw Clayton register a personal best with a time of 8.88 seconds in the 60-metre hurdles. Clayton, who was running in the event for the first time at the U SPORTS level, is now ranked among Canada West's top 10 in the 60-metre hurdles.

NEXT UP
The Cougars will split up next weekend with strong contingents at both the Bison Indoor Open in Fargo and at the Regina Indoor Games over at the Regina Fieldhouse. The Cougars will also send Podbielski to compete in both the mile and the 3000-metre run at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational in Boston, Mass.
