The Canadian Elite Basketball League's Saskatchewan Rattlers announced Tuesday that they have promoted University of Regina men's basketball head coach Steve Burrows to associate head coach for the 2025 season after he served as an assistant coach with the Rattlers in 2024.

The CEBL season runs from May through August. Burrows will continue his coaching duties with the Cougars throughout the summer as he prepares for his 13th year as the U of R's head coach.

"We are really pleased that Steve has agreed to step up into the role of Associate Head Coach with the Rattlers this season," said Barry Rawlyk, the Rattlers' general manager and vice-president of basketball operations. "He brings a wealth of experience and technical expertise to the position and will make a significant impact on the way we play. Elevating Steve to this position will give everybody a greater opportunity to learn from him. Steve has a long track record of success as a coach and we expect that he will help create a culture of success here."

One of the original CEBL franchises when the league started play in 2019, the Rattlers are preparing for their seventh season. Playing out of the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, the Rattlers begin their 24-game regular season at home on May 15 against the Vancouver Bandits.

"I am very thankful for the opportunity to return to the Rattlers this summer," Burrows said. "I'm looking forward to working with the entire staff to try and bring a championship back to Saskatchewan."
