The University of Regina's track & field teams kicked off the 2024-25 season on Saturday at the Larmer Friendship Games at the Regina Fieldhouse.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Shelaine Pritchard opened the year with a strong showing, putting up a solid time of 8.69 seconds in the 60-metre hurdles while also collecting a personal best in the high jump (1.65m).
- Storm Zablocki led the way in the 60-metre dash with a time of 6.83 seconds while rookies Adam Sieben and Femi Akinloye were just behind with times of 6.91 and 6.98, respectively. Mason Novik just missed out on going sub-seven for the first time in his career, finishing in 7.02 seconds.
- Kaidyn Keith, Heidi Branning, and Queen Clayton finished the 60 in 7.72, 7.75, and 7.78 seconds, respectively, on the women's side. The times for Keith and Clayton were both personal bests.
PERSONAL BESTS
- The Cougars piled up a total of 27 personal bests at the meet, 17 by the men's team and 10 on the women's side.
- Five of the men's team's PBs came in the 60 as Akinloye, Novik, Jaxson Bowerin (7.32), Dominic Topos (7.46), and Damilola Abiodun (7.70) all had personal bests.
- Novik (23.33), Bowerin (23.83), Libanos (23.91), and Abiodun (24.68) all PB'd in the 200-metre dash.
- Other men's personal bests were courtesy of Libanos (53.75) and Abiodun (1:00.37) in the 400, Kaelen Kolb in the 800 (2:02.22), Topos in the 60-metre hurdles (9.19), Quinton Fettes in the pole vault (2.90m), Logan Stachowich in the high jump (1.85m), and David Asogwa in both the shot put (10.65m) and weight throw (9.68m).
- Both Keith and Clayton not only put up personal-best times in the 60-metre dash, but also the 200-metre event. Keith finished in 25.40 seconds while Clayton checked in with a time of 25.55.
- Faith Adebogun and Joclyn Seibel both put up personal bests in both the shot put and the weight throw. Adebogun had a throw of 11.76m in the shot put, while Seibel's top hurl was 11.14m.
- Katelyn Kichula's time of 26.92 seconds in the 200 was also a PB.
NEXT UP
The Cougars will return to competition the second weekend of January. They'll take part in the Sanderson Classic, scheduled to take place Friday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Saskatoon Field House.
