University of Regina track & field head coach Sabrina Nettey announced Tuesday that Luke Holman has committed to the Cougars and will join the team's distance group for the 2026-27 season.

Holman hails from Moosomin, Sask. and was a double medallist at last year's SHSAA Track & Field Championships as a Grade 11 runner. He won silver in both the 1500-metre run and the 3000-metre run for McNaughton High School, finishing second to future U of R teammate Alec Teichler in both of those races.

"Luke is one of the top graduating student-athletes in the province and we're thrilled he has chosen the U of R," Nettey said. "I'm so excited about what we're building here with the Cougars and can't wait for Luke to get on campus. He'll be a great addition to the young, exciting distance group we have here."

Holman just set two new indoor personal-best times earlier this month at the Sanderson Classic in Saskatoon, finishing the 1000-metre run in 2:34.97 and the 1500 in 4:06.73. He currently holds outdoor PBs of 1:54.88 in the 800-metre run, 4:07.94 in the 1500, and 9:17.73 in the 3000.

Holman plans to enroll in the Faculty of Science in the fall.
