Cougars continue season at Bison Classic in Winnipeg

Team combines for 5 first-place finishes, 14 PBs

  • The University of Regina's track & field teams combined for 5 first-place finishes and 14 personal-best performances over the weekend at the Bison Classic in Winnipeg.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Shelaine Pritchard won three events for the Cougars, taking top spot in the 60-metre dash, 60-metre hurdles, and long jump. Her time of 8.45 seconds in the 60 hurdles was a season best and ranks her fifth in U SPORTS, while her 7.55 seconds in the 60-metre dash was also her best of the year and has her sixth in Canada West.
  • Faith Adebogun had a massive personal-best performance in the weight throw, breaking out with a toss of 16.49 metres which was over two metres longer than her previous best. Adebogun, who finished second in the event, is now ranked No. 3 in Canada West and No. 12 in the nation in the weight throw.
  • Kaidyn Keith had the only other medal of the meet on the women's side, finishing third in the triple jump (11.36m).
  • Second-year sprinter Queen Clayton had a pair of fourth-place finishes, including in the 300-metre dash where she had a personal-best time of 39.91 seconds. She was also fourth in the 60.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Ian Teichler and Brett MacLean both won distance events. Teichler won the 1500-metre run in a time of 3:53.68 that has him ranked No. 4 in Canada West this season, while MacLean took the 3000-metre run with a time of 8:30.59. Teichler was also second in the 3000 (8:40.42) with MacLean placing third in the 1500 with a season-best time of 3:55.18.
  • The men's 4x200-metre relay team consisting of Mason Novik, Colby Halliday, Jaxon Ermel, and Prince Owusu edged Saskatchewan for second place with a time of 1:30.71.
  • Daniel Eiswerth also secured a medal on the men's side with a time of 1:20.60 in the 600-metre run.
  • Andrew Benko placed fourth in the shot put (14.73m).

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will split the squad next weekend, with 18 athletes set to travel to Edmonton for the Pandas Open and the remainder to stay in Regina to compete in the Regina Indoor Games.
