University of Regina track & field head coach
Sabrina Nettey announced Wednesday that Delaney Self (Coquitlam, B.C.) has committed to the Cougars and will begin her U SPORTS career in the fall of 2025.
Self won two medals at last year's British Columbia high school championships, winning gold in the 100-metre hurdles and bronze in the 400-metre hurdles to help Dr. Charles Best Secondary claim the AAA team title at the provincial meet.Â
"We're thrilled to welcome Delaney and her unique combination of speed, agility, and athleticism to our program," Nettey said. "We think she'll be an impact recruit and we are excited to support her continued development at the U SPORTS level. Beyond track & field, she's also a dedicated student and we're proud she's chosen to continue her academic and athletic journey with us."
Self has had a strong start to the 2025 season, setting personal-best times in both the 200-metre dash (27.03) and 400-metre dash (1:01.14) in the last month. She also carries PBs of 12.99 seconds in the 100-metre dash, 14.46 seconds in the 100-metre hurdles, and 1:05.24 in the 400-metre hurdles. Her top effort in the high jump was 1.60 metres, a mark which she hit back during the 2023 outdoor season.
Self, who plans to enroll in Luther College, will join her twin sister Makenna Self at the U of R. Makenna, a sprinter and long jumper, committed to the Cougars last month while Sarah Leverton (Outlook, Sask.) has also committed to the U of R's women's team for next season.
