Pritchard highlights Golden Bear Open with U of R record, U SPORTS standards

Fourth-year star breaks school pentathlon mark with 4158 points

  • Shelaine Pritchard's school record and U SPORTS standard in the pentathlon highlighted the weekend for the University of Regina track & field teams at the Golden Bear Open in Edmonton. Pritchard also auto-qualified for U SPORTS in the shot put during the pentathlon.

PRITCHARD SETS PENTATHLON MARK
  • Pritchard totalled 4158 points to break the previous University of Regina record of 4055 set by Joely Welburn at the 2020 U SPORTS Championships.
  • Her pentathlon was highlighted by a dominant win in the shot put with a throw of 13.36 metres, which ranks her second in the nation. She also posted a personal-best jump of 6.27 metres in the long jump, also ranking her No. 2 in U SPORTS. Pritchard currently sits second nationally in the pentathlon and third in the 60-metre hurdles.
  • Pritchard now holds five University of Regina records: the 60-metre dash, 60-metre hurdles, shot put, pentathlon, and 4x200-metre relay.

OTHER WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Queen Clayton and Delaney Self both qualified for the finals of the 60-metre hurdles and set personal-best times in the final, with Clayton finishing third (8.70 s) and Self placing sixth (8.96 s).
  • Heidi Branning and Clayton also recorded personal-best performances in the 60-metre dash final. Branning finished fourth in 7.57 seconds, while Clayton placed fifth in 7.61 seconds.
  • Joclyn Seibel placed third in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 12.68 metres on her opening attempt.
  • Both relay teams earned third-place finishes. Anna Komarychka, Juleah Duesing, Katelyn Kichula, and Hana Parker ran 1:45.99 in the 4x200-metre relay while Pritchard, Clayton, Branning, and Hailey Turcotte clocked 3:57.03 in the 4x400-metre relay.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jacob Klassen won Friday's 3000-metre run in 8:43.65, cutting nearly a minute off his previous personal best.
  • Femi Akinloye and Adam Sieben both advanced to the finals of the 60-metre dash. Akinloye finished third with a personal-best time of 6.75 seconds, while Sieben placed fifth (6.88 s).
  • Alec Teichler and Brett MacLean finished third and fourth in the 1500-metre run, respectively, with times of 3:59.31 and 3:59.76.
  • Sieben, Akinloye, Brett Franklin, and Logan Stachowich combined for a fourth-place finish in the 4x200 (1:29.36).
  • Dominic Topos placed fifth in the finals of the 60-metre hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.47 seconds.
  • Daniel Eiswerth and Tutu Daldum also earned fifth-place finishes, with Eiswerth running 1:20.99 in the 600-metre run and Daldum clearing 1.82 metres in the high jump.
  • James Weimer made his heptathlon debut and finished seventh overall with 4149 points.

NEXT UP
  • A small group of Cougars will compete next weekend in Saskatoon at the Knights of Columbus Games. Akinloye and Sieben will race in both the 50- and 60-metre dashes, while Pritchard will throw in the shot put at the invitational meet.
