Box Score Game Summary

Tyler Stella's goal in the third round of the shootout gave the Lethbridge Pronghorns a 4-3 win over the University of Regina Cougars in a Canada West men's hockey game on Friday night at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.

The win improves Lethbridge's record to 2-1-0 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 0-1-1.

Scott Bowles made 23 saves for Lethbridge and stopped two of Regina's three attempts in the shootout to secure the victory. Brant Hilton (pictured) made 22 saves for the Cougars but was tagged with the loss.

Dillon Johnstone opened up the scoring for the Cougars midway through the first period. Johnstone took a pass from Neil Kodman and streaked down the right wing, snapping a shot that beat Bowles to the short side. The Pronghorns tied up the game on the power play early in the second. Andrew Marshall fired a slap shot at the point that Hilton saved, but Gaetano Donato corralled the rebound and flipped a backhand past the Cougar netminder. The Cougars outshot Lethbridge by a 12-6 margin in the middle frame, but couldn't beat Bowles.

The Cougars went ahead midway through the third period as fourth-year forward Devon Smith fought for a rebound at the side of the Lethbridge net and lifted a shot over Bowles to score his first goal of the season. The Pronghorns then got goals from Dustin Moore and Kris Snopek to take a 3-2 lead, but Regina's Neil Kodman scored on a one-timer from the slot to tie the game at three with three minutes remaining.

Regina outshot Lethbridge 26-25 during the game. The Pronghorns were 2-for-6 with the power play, while Regina was 1-for-5.

The two teams will square off again on Saturday night at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
