Box Score Game Summary
The University of Regina's women's hockey team led 3-0 after two periods and cruised to a 4-1 victory on Friday night over the Lethbridge Pronghorns at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.
The game was scoreless until the final minute of the opening period, when
Kara McGeough scored a shorthanded goal to put the Cougars in the lead.
Gina Campbell scored the first goal of her career three minutes into the second to put the Cougars up two, then
Kelcie McCutcheon scored a power play marker at 14:48 of the middle frame which chased starting Lethbridge goaltender Kailey McMaster.
Lethbridge got on the board in the third period when Lindsay Murray scored just under four minutes in, but the Cougars restored the three-goal lead at the 12:09 mark thanks to
Paige Wheeler's second goal of the season.
Campbell, McGeough, and Wheeler each had assists to give them two-point nights.
Kelsie Graham had two assists for the Cougars, while
Bret Dundas and
Brooke Einarson had single helpers.
Lisa Urban stopped 19 of Lethbridge's 20 shots to record the win for Regina. McMaster allowed three goals on 14 shots before being pulled in favour of Mackenzie Rizos, who stopped eight of the Cougars' nine shots on net.
The win improves the Cougars' record to 1-6-0 on the season, while Lethbridge falls to 0-6-1. The two teams will face off again on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
