UBC takes 2-0 win over Cougars

The University of Regina's women's hockey team was blanked 2-0 on Friday night by the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver.

Melinda Choy made 29 saves to secure the shutout for the Thunderbirds, while Regina's Lisa Urban stopped 28 of the 30 shots she faced in the loss.

UBC opened the scoring with just ten seconds remaining in the opening period, as Ayn Grant netted her second goal of the season with assists from Kaylee Chanakos and Kaitlin Imai.

The score remained 1-0 until just past the 14-minute mark of the third period, when Kelsey Halvorson scored her third goal of the season to put UBC up by two goals. Chanakos and Julia Staszewski registered assists on the insurance marker.

Rookie forward Gina Campbell had a game-high six shots for the Cougars.

The loss drops the Cougars' record to 1-8-0 on the season, while UBC improves to 5-5-1. The two teams will play again on Saturday night at Thunderbird Arena.
