The University of Regina's women's hockey team put one in the win column on Saturday night after defeating the UBC Thunderbirds by a score of 2-1 in a Canada West game at Thunderbird Arena.

Brooke Einarson opened the scoring for the Cougars midway through the first period on a power play marker, with Jayme-Lee Green and Kara McGeough drawing assists on Einarson's first goal of the season. Julia Staszewski was the only UBC player to beat Lisa Urban during the game. She scored a power play goal midway through the third period to draw the Thunderbirds to within one, but Urban closed the door the rest of the way to secure the victory for the Cougars.

Urban ended up with 21 saves on 22 shots in the win. UBC's Melinda Choy was peppered with 36 Regina shots, but was saddled with the loss.

The Cougars were 1-for-7 on the power play, while UBC was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
