Ranked No. 2 in the CIS, the Cougars opened up a 15-point lead by the midpoint of the third quarter, but the young WolfPack squad battled back. TRU went on a 15-1 run to pull within one point early in the fourth, but the Cougars were able to hold off the WolfPack down the stretch.
Rebecca Schmidt scored 16 points to lead the Cougars.
Jessica Lynch had 14 points and six rebounds, and
Carmen Stewart had a team-high eight boards.
Chelsea Cassano was huge defensively for Regina, recording five blocks.
The win came at a cost for the Cougars, however. Fifth-year guard
Meryl Jordan broke her left wrist after attempting to draw a charge late in the fourth quarter and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Sarah Cameron and Kaitlyn Widsten each had 17 points to lead Thompson Rivers (2-7).
The win improves Regina's record to 6-1 on the season. The Cougars can move into sole possession of the Great Plains Division lead with a win on Saturday against Fraser Valley (3-6).
NOTES: Cassano's first block of the night was the 100th of her career with the Cougars ... the fifth-year post now has ten on the season and 104 in her career.
