Box Score Game Summary

The University of Regina's men's hockey team scored just 77 seconds into the game and peppered Manitoba goalie Steve Christie with 39 shots, but the Bisons were able to skate away with a 4-1 victory over the Cougars on Friday night at the Max Bell Arena in Winnipeg.

Justin Scott's first goal of his CIS career at the 1:17 mark gave the Cougars an early 1-0 lead. Ryan Cruse and Blair Stengler assisted on Scott's marker.

For the Cougars, though, the offence couldn't produce any more after that.

Manitoba's Travis Kornelsen tied up the game just before the 12-minute mark of the first period, and the Bisons took the lead for good midway through the second on a Rick Wood goal. Stephane Lenoski extended the lead to 3-1 on a power play goal with just over a minute remaining in the second, and the Bisons iced the game with an empty net goal late in the third.

Christie stood on his head, ending up with 38 saves to secure the win for the Bisons. Regina goalie Brant Hilton stopped 22 of Manitoba's 25 shots, including one on a penalty shot by Mike Hellyer in the third.

The Bisons were 1-for-8 on the power play, while the Cougars were 0-for-8.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night.
