One night after being taken to overtime by Brandon, the No. 2-ranked University of Regina women's basketball team recorded an 87-39 win over the Bobcats on Saturday night in Brandon.

The win gives the Cougars a 9-1 record heading into the Christmas break. Regina, which is on an eight-game winning streak, holds a three-game lead atop the Great Plains Division over second-place Winnipeg (6-4).

Jacquie Kenyon also scored 13 points for Regina, while Carmen Stewart (12) and Gabrielle Gheyssen (10) also broke into double figures in points as the Cougars spread the scoring around.

Sarah Lopes led Brandon with nine points. The Bobcats fall to 1-9 on the season with the loss.

The Cougars will return to action with three non-conference games at the Concordia-Reebok Tournament in late December. Regina's first game at the tournament will be against McMaster on Dec. 28, with two more games to follow on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30.

NOTES: Read's five blocks are tied for the second most in a single game by a Cougar since the U of R joined Canada West prior to the 2001-02 season … Chelsea Cassano had seven blocks in a game against Brandon on Nov. 24, 2006.
