Cougars improve to 2-1 after win over Lethbridge

The University of Regina's women's basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season after defeating the Lethbridge Pronghorns by an 88-40 score on Friday night in a Canada West game.

The Cougars, who entered the weekend ranked No. 8 in the CIS, had a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds from fifth-year forward Jessica Lynch. Brittany Read also had a strong game for Regina, scoring 17 and pulling down six boards in just 15 minutes on the floor.

Rebecca Schmidt (14) and Chelsea Cassano (13) also broke into double figures in points for Regina.

The Cougars led 23-12 after the first quarter and 43-20 at the half. Regina scored 33 points in the third quarter and led by as many as 54 points in the fourth.

Lauren Taal and Kenzie Sheen led Lethbridge with eight points apiece.

The Cougars will face the No. 6-ranked Calgary Dinos (4-1) in Calgary on Saturday night before returning to Regina. Live video and statistics will be available for the game.

NOTES: Danielle Schmidt made her debut with the Cougars, scoring five points in six minutes.
