Box Score Game Summary
Just when it looked like the University of Regina's women's hockey team might take undefeated Manitoba to overtime, Addie Miles scored a power play goal with 30 seconds remaining to give the No. 2-ranked Bisons a 3-2 win on Saturday night at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.
Miles pounced on a rebound after a Nellie Minshull shot and lifted it over Cougar goaltender
Lisa Urban to notch her 11th goal of the season – and, more importantly, secure the win for the Bisons. Miles' goal came while Regina's
Rae-Lynn Somogyi was serving a two-minute hooking penalty.
The Cougars had tied the game at two with just under seven minutes remaining when rookie
Gina Campbell scored an unassisted goal.
Kelsie Graham scored Regina's other goal, which came under two minutes into the first period.
Tammy Brade accounted for Manitoba's other goals, tying the game at 1-1 at the 7:16 mark of the first period, then putting the Bisons in the lead with a goal early in the third period. The goals were her 14th and 15th of the season.
All three of Manitoba's goals came with the man advantage. The Bisons were 3-for-10 on the power play, while the Cougars weren't able to connect on any of their eight power plays.
Stacey Corfield made 17 saves in the win for Manitoba, while Urban saved 20 for the Cougars.
With 32 points, the Bisons remain four points ahead of second-place Alberta (14-2-0). The Cougars drop to 3-13-0 on the season.
Manitoba will put its perfect record on the line again next weekend with a pair of home games against Saskatchewan (7-8-1). With the playoffs still a strong possibility, the Cougars will have a couple of critical road games at Lethbridge next Friday and Saturday.
