In a battle of two teams ranked in the top five in CIS women's basketball, the No. 5-ranked University of Regina scored a 77-58 victory over the No. 4 Alberta Pandas in a Canada West game on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Once again, it was the Cougars' inside game that led the team to victory. Second-year post Brittany Read scored a career-high 18 points to lead all players, and Chelsea Cassano had 16 points and ten rebounds. Jessica Lynch also recorded a double-double for Regina, scoring 11 points and pulling down 14 rebounds, including nine offensive boards.

As a team, the Cougars outrebounded Alberta by a 50-37 margin.

Alberta was led by Ashley Wigg, who shot 7-for-13 from the field and ended up with 17 points, eight steals, and five assists. Nicole Clarke had 10 points for the Pandas, who drop to 10-5 on the season.

The win improves Regina's record to 12-3. The win increases the Cougars' lead atop the Great Plains Division to two games over Winnipeg (10-5), as the Wesmen were defeated by a 62-53 margin by UBC on Friday night.

The Cougars will host No. 3-ranked Saskatchewan (13-2) on Saturday night at the CKHS. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
