The University of Regina's women's basketball team opened up with 13 consecutive points and cruised to a 72-54 win over the Manitoba Bisons on Saturday afternoon at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Jenna Ralston's layup finally put Manitoba on the board with over four minutes gone in the first quarter, but by that time the Cougars had built up a double-digit lead and held it for the duration of the contest to record their sixth consecutive victory over the Bisons.

Gabrielle Gheyssen hit both of her three-point attempts and was 5-for-9 from the field as she led the Cougars with 12 points in 14 minutes on the floor. Carmen Stewart and Megan Cherkas both scored 10 for Regina, as head coach Dave Taylor gave all 12 Cougars a fair share of floor time in the win.

Ralston was 5-for-7 from the field and led all scorers with 13 points. Kait Flett scored 11 for the Bisons, while Mubo Ilelaboye had ten.

The win improves Regina's record to 15-4, as the Cougars are well on their way to recording their finest regular season record since the 2003-04 campaign, when they posted an 18-2 conference mark. Manitoba falls to 7-12 with the loss.

The two teams will meet again on Sunday afternoon at the CKHS. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
