Cougars dominate glass; return to winning ways with victory over Manitoba

The University of Regina's women's basketball team outrebounded the Manitoba Bisons by a 56-23 margin on Friday night en route to a 69-61 win in a Canada West game in Winnipeg.

The two teams were knotted at 53 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Cougars took control with an 11-2 run late in the game.

Chelsea Cassano had 19 points and 15 rebounds to record one of three double-doubles for the Cougars, and also registered five blocks. Jessica Lynch (14 points, 13 rebounds) and Carmen Stewart (14 points, 10 rebounds) also had strong games in the win.

Tessa Klassen led the Bisons with 19 points in just under 40 minutes on the floor.

The Cougars improve to 10-3 on the season and still hold a one-game lead atop the Great Plains Division over Winnipeg (9-4), who defeated Brandon on Thursday night.

Regina and Manitoba will meet again on Saturday night beginning at 6 p.m.
