Regina took three out of four points from the Pronghorns, as the Cougars won 3-0 on Friday before losing 2-1 in overtime on Saturday. The only other games the Cougars have played this year were at Alberta, with the Pandas winning 4-0 and 3-2 in Edmonton three weeks ago.
Kelcie McCutcheon and
Paige Wheeler have a team-leading two goals for the Cougars (1-2-1), while
Gina Campbell and
Jacey Jones have both scored a goal and added an assist.
Kelsie Graham, the lone fifth-year player on the Cougars, has a team-high two assists.
Lisa Urban has made 28 consecutive starts between the pipes for Regina and holds a 2.25 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage this season.
Alberta (6-0-0) comes into the weekend ranked No. 3 in the CIS. The Pandas were tested last weekend at Saskatchewan, as they recorded two one-goal victories including a shootout win on Saturday. Tarin Podloski is tied for the conference lead in goals (5), assists (5), and points (10), while Leah Copeland has four goals and nine points. Alana Cabana has also scored four so far for the Pandas. Dana Vinge has a 1.15 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage in net for Alberta.
Despite still being in the first month of the season, the two games this weekend will be the final two meetings between the two teams during the conference schedule. Both Friday and Saturday's games will start at 7 p.m.
The Cougars will have next weekend off before returning to action on Nov. 14 and 15 against the Manitoba Bisons at the Communiskate Rink in Emerald Park.
