Alberta wins 7-0 for second consecutive night

The Alberta Pandas registered a 7-0 victory over the Regina Cougars in a Canada West women's hockey game on Saturday night at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.

The victory was the second consecutive shutout win for Alberta over the Cougars, as the No. 3-ranked Pandas also won 7-0 on Friday night.

Stephanie Ramsay and Katie Borbely both scored for Alberta in the first period. Ramsay's goal cam at even strength, while Borbely's goal was the first of five power play goals that the Pandas would score in the game.

Sarah Hilworth scored the lone goal of the second period, giving the Pandas a 3-0 lead after two. Alberta put the game away with three goals in the span of five minutes midway through the third, as Meagan Cornelssen scored a pair and Tarin Podloski netted one. Leah Copeland finished off the scoring with a goal late in the third.

Michala Jeffries was given her first start of the season for Alberta and made nine saves to secure the shutout. Lisa Urban stopped 50 shots for the Cougars, as the Pandas outshot Regina by a 57-9 margin during the game.

Alberta improves to 8-0-0 on the season, while Regina falls to 1-4-1.

The Pandas scored their five power play goals on 14 opportunities, while the Cougars were 0-for-4 with the man advantage.

Alberta will host UBC next week, while the Cougars will have another weekend off before returning to action at home against Manitoba on Nov. 14 and 15.
