Box Score Game Summary
Brandon Campos scored twice on Friday night to lead the UBC Thunderbirds to a 4-1 win over the Regina Cougars in a Canada West men's hockey game at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.
After Jordan Inglis opened up the scoring for UBC just 86 seconds into the game, Campos extended the Thunderbirds' lead to 2-0 with a goal late in the first period.
Regina's
Dillon Johnstone cut the lead to one with a goal early in the second period, but UBC restored the two-goal lead just over two minutes later after a goal from Tyler Ruel.
Campos scored his second of the night midway through the second period, a marker which proved to be the final goal of the contest.
Francois Thuot was peppered with 38 shots by the Cougars and stopped 37 to earn the win for UBC.
Brant Hilton made 11 saves in the first two periods for Regina and was pulled in favour of backup
Shayne Barrie after the second intermission. Barrie stopped all seven shots he faced in the third.
The Cougars outshot UBC by a 38-22 margin during the game. Neither team was able to score on the power play, as UBC was 0-for-2 with the man advantage and the Cougars failed to score on each of their five power plays.
UBC improves to 1-0-0 with the win, while the Cougars have lost three straight to open up their Canada West schedule.
The two teams will meet again at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre on Saturday night. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
