The University of Regina's women's hockey team continues its homestand this weekend with two games against the Manitoba Bisons at the Communiskate Rink in Emerald Park. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Cougars are in the midst of a six-game homestand which started two weekends ago against Alberta and concludes next weekend with a pair of games against Calgary. Regina (1-4-1) is currently just three points behind Lethbridge for fourth overall in the Canada West standings.
Third-year goalie
Lisa Urban has a 1-5 record and a 3.65 goals-against average for the Cougars, but ranks third among Canada West netminders with a sparkling .911 save percentage.
Kelcie McCutcheon and
Paige Wheeler lead the Cougars offensively with a pair of goals each.
Manitoba, currently ranked No. 4 in the CIS, also had last weekend off. The Bisons are currently riding a four-game winning streak and sit in third place in the conference with a 4-2-0 record.
First-year defenceman Caitlin MacDonald and third-year forward Addie Miles both have seven points through the team's first six games, while fourth-year forward Amy Coates has six. Manitoba goaltender Stacey Corfield has seen action in five games so far, registering a 2.81 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage.
Though Manitoba swept the four-game season series last year, the Cougars hold a 28-15-4 advantage in the all-time series between the two teams. The teams, who will be meeting for the first time this season, will also play two games in Winnipeg in early February.
The Cougars will host the Dinos next weekend, while Manitoba will travel to Lethbridge for a pair of games against the Pronghorns.
