Cougars downed 4-1 by Bisons

Box Score Game Summary

The University of Regina's men's hockey team lost 4-1 to the Manitoba Bisons on Sunday night at the Communiskate Rink in Emerald Park.

Tanner Shultz opened up the scoring with his second goal in as many games, beating Bisons goalie Steve Christie just two minutes into the game. Ryan Sawka assisted on Shultz's third goal of the season.

Regina's 1-0 lead stood up until six minutes into the second, when Manitoba's Kyle Howarth scored his third goal of the weekend to tie up the game. The Bisons took the lead eight minutes later, as Joey Moggach scored what would turn out to be the game-winning goal.

Blair Macauley extended Manitoba's lead to 3-1 with two minutes left in the second, and Kip Workman sealed the win with a power play goal just past the seven-minute mark of the third period.

Manitoba outshot Regina by a 39-20 margin during the contest. Regina goalie Adam Ward ended up with 35 saves, while Christie made 19 in the win.

Manitoba is now 8-3-1 on the season and sits in second place in the Canada West standings with 17 points, while the Cougars (4-8-0) are in fifth place with eight points.

The Cougars have next weekend off, while the Bisons will host Saskatchewan in a pair of games at the Max Bell Centre.
