Box Score Game Summary
Jordyn Hrehirchuk's goal in the sixth round of the shootout gave the Manitoba Bisons a 3-2 win over the Regina Cougars in Canada West women's hockey action at the Communiskate Rink.
Hrehirchuk's goal was the only successful effort of the shootout, as Manitoba's Stacey Corfield stymied the Cougars on all six of their attempts and Regina's
Lisa Urban stoned the Bisons through the first five rounds. Corfield stopped Regina forward
Kelsie Graham in the sixth round to seal the victory for Manitoba.
Regina's #Angèle Richmond# opened the scoring early in the first period, scoring her first CIS goal with help from
Stefanie Banilevic and
Kendyll Kolbeck.
The Cougars' lead stood up until midway through the second period, when Manitoba's Amy Lee notched her first goal of the season on the power play to knot the game at one.
Regina regained the lead just over three minutes later when
Kelcie McCutcheon scored her third of the season, but Tammy Brade evened the score at two apiece midway through the third with Manitoba's second power play goal of the contest.
The score stayed tied at two through regulation and overtime solved nothing, sending the game into the shootout.
Urban ended up with 27 saves for the Cougars, while Corfield made 21 for Manitoba.
The win improves No. 4-ranked Manitoba's record to 5-2-0, while Regina moves to 1-4-2 on the season.
The two teams will play again at the Communiskate Rink in Emerald Park on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
