Box Score Game Summary

The University of Regina's women's hockey team suffered a 9-1 loss to the Alberta Pandas on Friday night in a Canada West women's hockey game at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.

Brooke Einarson opened up the scoring for the Cougars on the power play just under seven minutes into the game, but it was all Pandas from there. Alberta reeled off five unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead after one, then scored four more in the remaining two periods against Regina backup goalie Naticia Leskun, who came on in relief of Lisa Urban to start the second.

Tarin Podloski and Miranda Miller both scored hat tricks for the Pandas, with Podloski adding three assists for a six-point night. Alana Cabana didn't score, but had five assists for Alberta in the lopsided victory. Stephanie Ramsay, Jennifer Newton, and Rayanne Reeve scored the other goals for the Pandas, who improve to a Canada West-leading 21-2-0 with the win.

Alberta goalie Dana Vinge stopped eight of Regina's nine shots in the win. The Pandas outshot the Cougars by a 33-9 margin.

The Cougars fall to 7-15-1 on the season and will now need help from Lethbridge in order to qualify for the postseason, as UBC is tied with the Cougars for fourth place and play the Pronghorns on Saturday and Sunday.

Alberta and Regina will meet again on Saturday night at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
