Box Score Game Summary
The Alberta Pandas scored six power play goals on Saturday night while recording their second consecutive 9-1 win over the Regina Cougars in Canada West women's hockey action at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.
Miranda Miller scored Alberta's first three goals to record her second hat trick in as many nights, while Tarin Podloski had two goals and four assists and ends up with 12 points during the two-game series. Leah Copeland scored a pair for the Pandas, while Alana Cabana and Stephanie Ramsay added singles.
Stefany Rankin's fourth goal of the season tied the game at one midway through the first period, but that would be the only goal the Cougars would score on Alberta goalie Dana Vinge.
Alberta outshot the Cougars by a 29-17 margin during the game. The Pandas were 6-for-10 on the power play, while Regina was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.
The win cements first place in the conference for Alberta, giving the No. 3-ranked Pandas (22-2-0) their eighth consecutive Canada West regular season title. The loss eliminates Regina from postseason contention, as the youthful Cougars made a valiant effort to qualify for the Canada West playoffs but will end up in fifth place in the conference.
Alberta will host UBC in the first round of the Canada West playoffs, which begin on March 6.
