Box Score Game Summary
Caine Pearpoint scored two goals including the game winner late in the second period as the University of Regina's men's hockey team scored a 3-2 win over the Manitoba Bisons to take a 1-0 lead in their Canada West quarterfinal series.
Pearpoint opened the scoring 67 seconds into the game and
Dillon Johnstone joined in the fun just 26 seconds later, giving the Cougars an early 2-0 lead.
After killing off a two-man power play that saw the Cougars enjoy 1:50 of 5-on-3 advantage, the Bisons' Stephane Lenoski scored midway through the first period to cut the lead to one.
The score stayed 2-1 until late in the second period, when Pearpoint scored what would prove to be the game winner with just under four minutes remaining in the middle session.
Manitoba's Jared Walker lit the lamp for the Bisons to cut the lead back down to one, but Regina goalie
Adam Ward closed the door the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Ward ended up saving 23 of 25 shots in the win for the Cougars. Manitoba's Steve Christie made 21 saves for the Bisons.
Both teams ended up 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night, with faceoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at the U of M's Max Bell Arena.
