Led by third-year post Brittany Read, the University of Regina's women's basketball team improved their Prairie Division-leading record to 9-2 on Friday night after a 74-66 road win over the Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg.

The Bisons went on a run early in the fourth quarter to cut Regina's lead to just two, but the Cougars held Manitoba to just two points over the next seven minutes and made several key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Read led all players in points (22) and rebounds (18) and fell just short of a triple-double as she piled up eight blocked shots. Joanna Zalesiak had 12 points, eight rebounds, and five assists for the Cougars, while Gabrielle Gheyssen had ten points.

Kayla Klassen, Mubo Ilelaboye, and Michele Hynes all had 14 points to lead the Bisons.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.

NOTES: Read's eight blocks tied her career high, which she set against the Bisons on Jan. 9, 2009 … Read has seven double-doubles and has scored at least ten points in all 11 conference games this season.
