The University of Regina's women's basketball team completed a two-game sweep over the Manitoba Bisons after recording a 76-50 win on Saturday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.
The Cougars jumped out of the gates early, opening up a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter. Manitoba chipped away at the lead and got to within three of Regina just before the seven-minute mark of the second quarter, but the Cougars seized control of the contest by reeling off 14 consecutive points during a run that extended into the early stages of the third
Brittany Read was 8-for-9 from the field and led all players with 19 points, while
Joanna Zalesiak had 14 points and a game-high seven rebounds.
Lindsay Ledingham scored nine points and pulled down five rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench for the Cougars.
Michele Hynes scored 13 points for Manitoba. Kait Flett chipped in with 11.
The win improves Regina's Prairie Division-leading record to 10-2, while Manitoba falls to 5-8 with the loss.
The Cougars will return home next weekend for a pair of games against Brandon (2-11).
