The University of Regina's women's basketball team improved its Canada West record to 11-2 after defeating the Brandon Bobcats by a 64-45 score on Friday night in a Canada West game at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars led by just four after one quarter, but built up a quick double-digit lead after scoring the first ten points of the second. Regina put the game out of reach with a 19-2 run that spanned the first half of the third quarter.
Brittany Read had her eighth double-double of the season for the Cougars, scoring 15 points and pulling down 13 rebounds in just 21 minutes on the floor.
Joanna Zalesiak had 14 points and six rebounds, while
Rebecca Schmidt had ten points. Head coach
Dave Taylor used his entire bench in the win, as all 12 Cougars saw at least ten minutes of playing time.
Jayla Bousquet and Nicisha Johnson both had 12 points to lead Brandon, while Bousquet had a team-high eight rebounds. The Bobcats fall to 2-13 on the season.
The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
