The University of Regina's women's basketball team rolled to a 93-44 win over the Brandon Bobcats on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars set the tone early, scoring the first 14 points of the game and taking a 47-12 lead into the half. Brandon was able to get their offence moving in the second half, but wasn't able to cut into the daunting deficit.
“Our energy and focus was much better tonight,” Cougars head coach
Dave Taylor said. “I'm very pleased with our performance – that's the type of effort we need going down the stretch.”
Gabrielle Gheyssen was 8-for-9 from the field and scored a game-high 17 points for the Cougars.
Carmen Stewart had 14 points, while
Joanna Zalesiak had 12 points and a game-high four assists.
Danielle Schmidt chipped in with nine points and tied for the team lead with six rebounds in a career-high 22 minutes on the floor.
Amanda Fortin, Jayla Bousquet, and Nicisha Johnson each scored ten points for Brandon (2-14).
The No. 2-ranked Cougars improve to 12-2 with the victory and will prepare for a two-game road trip to Calgary next weekend.
