Box Score Game Summary

Craig Cuthbert's first multiple-goal game of his CIS career powered the University of Regina's men's hockey team to a 6-2 road win over the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday night at Father Bauer Arena in Vancouver.

Cuthbert opened the scoring midway through the first period, then put the game away with an insurance marker on the power play just 16 seconds into the third period.

Adam Ward was spectacular between the pipes for Regina, turning aside 39 shots in the victory.

Mark Nelson, Jared Jagow, Devon LeBlanc, and Caine Pearpoint also scored for the Cougars, while Dillon Johnstone and Tanner Shultz both recorded a pair of assists.

Jordan Inglis and Max Grassi both scored for UBC.

The win improves Regina's record to 5-10-0. The Cougars are now just one point back of Lethbridge and UBC and have two games in hand on both teams.

The Cougars and the Thunderbirds will play again on Saturday night. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PST.

NOTES: All three of U of R head coach Blaine Sautner's new additions got on the scoresheet Friday, as LeBlanc had a goal and a helper, Jagow scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal, and defenceman Kevin Falloon had a helper on Cuthbert's first goal.
