The University of Regina's No. 3-ranked women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the season on Friday night after falling 76-63 to the UBC Thunderbirds in a Canada West game at the War Memorial Gym in Vancouver.

A layup by Joanna Zalesiak pulled Regina to within three points midway through the fourth quarter, but the visiting Cougars were outscored 10-3 in the second half of the final quarter.

All five of UBC's starters scored in double figures, led by 14 points each from Alex Vieweg and Zara Huntley. Devan Lisson (13 points), Lia St. Pierre (12), and Candace Morisset (11) also scored at least ten points for the Thunderbirds.

Zalesiak led all players with 15 points and nine assists, while Rebecca Schmidt and Lindsay Ledingham came off the bench to score 12 and ten points, respectively. Brittany Read had ten points and 15 rebounds in a team-high 34 minutes on the floor.

The loss drops Regina's conference record to 7-2, though the Cougars maintain first place in the Prairie Division. The Cougars will face Victoria (5-3) on Saturday night, with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m. PST.
