Box Score Game Summary
The University of Regina's women's hockey team completed a two-game sweep in a critical weekend series with a 3-2 win on Saturday night over the UBC Thunderbirds at the Sherwood Ice Sports Centre.
UBC opened the scoring early in the second, as Chelsea Laing scored the first of her two goals less than three minutes into the opening frame.
Rianne Wight responded for the Cougars, scoring her fourth of the year to tie the game at one apiece just past the 12-minute mark of the first.
The score stayed tied at one until midway through the second, when Laing scored again for UBC to give the visitors the lead.
Kelsie Graham scored at the 18-minute mark of the second to tie the game at two with her second goal in as many games, and
Paige Wheeler scored what would turn out to be the game winner just over a minute later.
Lisa Urban was called upon to make 19 saves for the Cougars in the win. UBC goalie Melinda Choy allowed three goals on 27 shots, while Kaylee Chanakos and Kaitlin Imai assisted on both of Laing's goals for Thunderbirds.
The win improves Regina's record to 5-5-4 as the Cougars pull three points clear of the Thunderbirds (5-8-1) for fourth place in the Canada West standings.
UBC will host the Alberta Pandas next weekend, while the Cougars will hit the road for a two-game weekend series against Calgary.
