Box Score Game Summary
The University of Regina's women's hockey team defeated Saskatchewan by a 3-2 score on Saturday night, giving the Cougars a weekend sweep over the No. 9 ranked Huskies.
Saskatchewan took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission and extended the lead to two just 21 seconds into the first period after a goal from Cara Wooster, but the Cougars had an immediate reply and goalie
Lisa Urban shut the door from there.
Rianne Wight provided that reply for the Cougars, scoring just seven seconds after Wooster's goal to cut the deficit to one. After the two teams combined for two goals in the first 28 seconds of the second, the rest of the period went by without any scoring.
Wight tied up the game with a power play goal 5:46 into the third period, and
Kelcie McCutcheon notched the game winner with another power play marker at the 14-minute mark of the third.
Urban ended up making 39 saves for the Cougars, who improve to 3-1-0 with the victory and are tied with Calgary for first place in the conference.
Wight, who has now scored twice in each of the team's first four games of the Canada West schedule, leads the nation in goals scored with eight. McCutcheon and Wight are also tied for the CIS lead with nine points each.
The Cougars will return to the ice with a two-game road trip to UBC on Oct. 29 and 30.
