Box Score Game Summary

Terrance DeLaronde scored twice against his former team and added an assist as the University of Regina's men's hockey team defeated the Manitoba Bisons by a 5-2 score in a Canada West game at the Max Bell Arena in Winnipeg.

DeLaronde opened up the scoring on the power play late in the first period, then sealed the win with a shorthanded breakaway goal that extended Regina's lead to two with just over two minutes left in the contest. The second-year forward also assisted on Matt Strueby's game-winning-goal in the second.

Adam Ward made 30 saves in the win as the Cougars improve to 2-1-0 on the season. Steve Christie made 23 saves for Manitoba (0-1-0).

After the Cougars took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, Craig Cuthbert scored on a wraparound to give Regina a two-goal advantage four minutes into the third. Strueby's power play goal at the 10:10 mark of the middle frame put the Cougars up three, but Manitoba got on the board just 24 seconds later after Jared Walker beat Ward.

Manitoba's Tyler Dittmer cut the lead to just one with a goal eight minutes into the third, but that was as close as Manitoba could come. DeLaronde's second of the contest was the backbreaker for Manitoba, and Lucas Isley scored added a late insurance marker less than a minute later.

The Cougars were 2-for-6 on the power play and successfully killed off all six of Manitoba's opportunities with the man advantage.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Winnipeg.

NOTES: Friday marked the second time this season that DeLaronde has had a three-point night against his former school ... DeLaronde also had two goals and an assist against Manitoba in non-conference play on Sept. 11.
