Box Score Game Summary

Lucas Isley scored the only goal of the shootout and Adam Ward stopped all three Lethbridge attempts to give the University of Regina a 3-2 road win over the Pronghorns on Friday night in Canada West men's hockey action.

Ward was also stellar in regulation, stopping 40 of 42 shots in the win. Russ Nielsen and Tyler Penny both scored for the Cougars, while Tyler Melancon and Kris Snopek tallied for Lethbridge.

The win improves Regina's record to 5-8-0, while Lethbridge moves to 2-4-3 on the season. The Cougars currently sit two points behind fourth-place Saskatcehwan (6-5-0) for the final Canada West playoff spot.

The Pronghorns hit the scoresheet twice early in the first period, as Melancon scored 1:20 into the contest and Snopek's goal – which would turn out to be the last puck to beat Ward during the contest – came just before the five-minute mark.

Nielsen replied on the power play for the Cougars just under three minutes after Snopek's goal. Penny's goal – also scored with the man advantage – tied the contest at two apiece with three minutes left in the second period.

Neither team scored in the third or in overtime, sending the contest into a shootout. Ward stopped attempts by Melancon, Winston Day Chief, and Daniel Iwanski, while Matt Strueby was stopped by Scott Bowles before Isley's winner.

Bowles made 33 saves for Lethbridge, which was 0-for-8 on the power play. The Cougars were 2-for-10 with the man advantage in a game in which the two teams combined for 76 minutes in penalties.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Lethbridge.
