Box Score Game Summary

Ashley Beattie's overtime goal gave the University of Lethbridge a 4-3 victory over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in a Canada West women's hockey game at The Co-Operators Centre.

Beattie took a pass from Brittany Kaye behind the net and put it over the shoulder of Cougar goalie Lisa Urban, ending the game just under seven minutes into the 10-minute extra session.

The win improves Lethbridge's record to 3-7-1, while the Cougars fall to 4-5-2 on the season.

Lethbridge scored the only goal of the first period, as Urban made the initial save but Megan Bach put home the rebound to give the Pronghorns the lead with two minutes left in the opening frame.

Action picked up in the second period as Lethbridge extended its lead to two after a broken play that saw the puck end up on the stick of Katie Mucha, who scored four minutes into the middle frame.

The Cougars replied with a shorthanded goal from Katie Kennedy. The second-year forward made a nice move behind the net to reverse the puck and bank it in off Lethbridge goalie Crystal Patterson to reduce the deficit to two just past the seven-minute mark.

After a save by Urban on a breakaway with five minutes left in the middle session, the Cougars tied up the contest. Rianne Wight scored her Canada West-leading 11th goal of the season on a wild goalmouth scramble, notching a power play goal with under a minute to go in the second. Nicole Hollingshead and Paige Wheeler earned assists on the play.

Jenna-Marie Durnin scored a power play goal five minutes into the third, taking a swing at the puck and popping it over the shoulder of Urban to put Lethbridge back up by one.

The Cougars tied up the game midway through the third on a nice play which saw Wight feed the puck over to Wheeler, who shot over Patterson's shoulder to notch her fifth of the season. The goal finished off the regulation scoring and set the stage for overtime, which ended with Beattie's first of the season.

The Cougars peppered Patterson with 40 shots, but the rookie goaltender stopped 37 of them. Urban made 29 saves in the overtime loss for the Cougars.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at The Co-Operators Centre.
