The University of Regina's women's hockey team suffered a 7-3 loss to the Calgary Dinos on Saturday night in its final game of the first half of the Canada West schedule.

Paige Wheeler opened the scoring on the power play 4:35 into the first period, but Calgary got goals from Calaine Inglis and Jenna Smith to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Casey Irving notched another goal for the Dinos midway through the second and Hayley Wickenheiser extended the lead to three with a goal two minutes before the end of the middle frame.

Inglis and Smith both scored again for Calgary in the first half of the third period, putting the game away for the Dinos. Kelcie McCutcheon and Kaitlin Sherven both scored for the Cougars late in the contest, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.

Amanda Tapp made 27 saves to secure the win for Calgary, while Lisa Urban made 31 saves for the Cougars.

Regina was 2-for-10 on the power play, while Calgary was 2-for-9.

The Cougars will return to action with a home-and-home against Saskatchewan on Jan. 7 and Jan. 8.
