Jana Spindler's 25 points led the No. 4-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies to a 70-66 win over the Regina Cougars on Friday night in a Canada West women's basketball game at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The No. 2-ranked Cougars outscored Saskatchewan by a 27-16 margin in the third quarter to take a six-point lead into the fourth, but the Huskies were able to come all the way back and hold off Regina down the stretch to secure the win. Saskatchewan iced the game by hitting all eight of its free throw attempts during the last three minutes of play.

Spindler was 8-for-11 from the field for Saskatchewan and hit nine of her ten free throws. Lindsay DeGroot scored 17 and added 11 rebounds to record the game's lone double-double, while Jill Humbert chipped in with 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

The Huskies (13-6) were impressive from the charity stripe, going 19-for-21 from the line in the win.

Brittany Read led Regina in both points (21) and rebounds (9), while Joanna Zalesiak had 13 points and a game-high six assists.

The Cougars, who shot 45% from the field, fall to 16-3 with the loss.

The back-and-forth game featured 11 lead changes and eight tie scores. Saskatchewan's 10-point lead in the third quarter was the biggest of the contest for either team, but was quickly erased by 16 consecutive points by the hometown Cougars.

The two teams will finish off the Canada West regular season schedule on Saturday night in Saskatoon. Like Friday's game, Saturday's contest will mean nothing in the Prairie Division standings.

NOTES: Regina forward Gabrielle Gheyssen left the game in the fourth quarter with an injury to her left ankle.
