Big second quarter lifts Huskies to 88-67 win over Cougars

The Saskatchewan Huskies outscored the Regina Cougars by a 22-6 margin in the second quarter and went on to an 88-67 win on Saturday night in a Canada West women's basketball game in Saskatoon.

Lindsay DeGroot led all players in points (27) and rebounds (12) and fell just two assists short of a rare triple-double for the Huskies. Jana Spindler (13), Lindsay Copeland (11), Jill Humbert (10), and Kim Tulloch (10) also scored in double figures for Saskatchewan, which finishes the season with a 14-6 conference record.

Lindsay Ledingham led the Cougars with 12 points, while Carmen Stewart, Joanna Zalesiak, and Megan Chamberlin each had ten.

The Cougars (16-4) will have next weekend off before hosting a best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series against the Lethbridge Pronghorns beginning on Thursday, Feb. 25 at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
