Joanna Zalesiak's shot from half court as regulation time expired sent the game into overtime, but the University of Regina's women's basketball team was outscored 6-4 in the extra session and lost 65-63 to the Winnipeg Wesmen on Saturday night.

Zalesiak scored five points in the final few seconds of the fourth, as she also drained a pair of free throws in addition to her buzzer-beating miracle.

In overtime, Zalesiak hit another three - this one from a more conventional distance - to give the Cougars an early, but that would be the U of R's lone field goal of the five-minute period.

Amy Ogidan had 22 points for Winnipeg before fouling out in overtime, while Stephanie Kleysen had 11 points and 17 rebounds and Caitlin Gooch scored 12.

Zalesiak, who also fouled out in overtime, had 26 points and 11 rebounds. Gabrielle Gheyssen had 11 points for the Cougars, while Anne Mercer had eight points and 11 rebounds.

Regina and Winnipeg are now tied for second place in the Canada West standings with 13-3 records, one game behind first-place Saskatchewan (14-2).

The Cougars will head to the West Coast next weekend for a pair of road games against Fraser Valley (8-8).
